5 Retail Projects Coming To Central Florida

Oct 23, 2013 No Comments by

The developer responsible for building a new Whole Foods Market-anchored retail center in Winter Park has plenty more up its sleeve — five total projects, to be more specific.

And that would bring plenty of construction opportunities, as well as permanent jobs, money to the local property tax rolls and new retail space to several submarkets that have been building up demand from potential tenants.

Franklin, Tenn.-based UP Development Inc. — the same firm finalizing plans for a new 140,000-square-foot shopping center in Winter Park and redeveloping Orlando Fashion Square mall near downtown Orlando — has its hands in three more potential developments in the area spanning Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties, state and county records showed.

UP Development’s related UP Fieldgate US Investments has several related entities tied to properties it bought for future development, including multiple parcels in Oviedo, Altamonte Springs and Clermont, as well as another entity that points to possible properties under contract in Osceola County.

The company also still owns two other Central Florida retail centers: the site of the redeveloped former Expo Design Center store near The Mall at Millenia that was redeveloped into a Dick’s Sporting Goods and Toys “R” Us/Babies “R” Us combo store in 2010, and the nearly 200,000-square-foot Shoppes at Alfaya.
